Sarah Slonim - "After-hours" Jam Session
Sarah Slonim has made a name for herself on the New York City jazz scene as "a fantastic young pianist with an original concept and a delightful feel" (-Spike Wilner). Musicians and audiences often note Sarah’s beautiful touch and soulful and swinging approach to the music. She brings her musical concept to Smalls Jazz Club every other Thursday in a trio setting, featuring New York's finest musicians on bass and drums.
Another of her bands, the Sarah Slonim Project, recently comepleted an East Coast Tour and plays straight-ahead jazz with a modern vibe, drawing on repertoire from the American Songbook, jazz composers, Motown, Blues, Brazilian music, and original compositions. The music inspires, empowers, and brings joy to audiences. Sarah is also a member of the SIJ Trio, an all-female ensemble which was recently selected to perform at the International Women in Jazz Festival in New York City.
In addition to performing, Sarah is a dedicated educator. She works to provide mentorship and instruction to the next generations of musicians and increase audience appreciation. She has conducted assemblies, workshops, and clinics throughout the United States for learners of all ages and experience levels. She also teaches a large studio of private piano students in the NYC area.
Sarah was born and raised in Seattle and graduated with a B.M. in Jazz Studies and a B.A. in Comparative Cultures and Politics from Michigan State University in 2011.
